A general term for the many lace fabrics made in Normandy at Caen, Chantilly and elsewhere. -
2 Poussin Lace
A narrow lace resembling Valenciennes, made at Dieppe, Havre and other towns in Normandy. Used to trim collars and caps. -
3 Argentan
French needle-point lace - similar to Alencon - net ground with large patterns made higher and bolder than Alencon, closer toile than in Alencon, greater variety of brides, especially the bride picotee, the ground is the grande bride, a six-sided mesh. Early specimens called Point de France. It takes its name from Argentan (Normandy) where it was made. The patterns are bolder than in Alencon lace. Only specimens can now be seen, as the fabric is obsolete.
